About Me

About Me...

I'm an '80s kid, and was adopted at birth by my grandparents (Turns out, the whole grandparents=parents/sister=mother background is something I share with Jack Nicholson, well that and the whole "all work no play thing"...j/k). I have my mother's love of reading and movies, my dad's love of learning, jack-of-all-trades nature, and sense of humor.  I have a sweet personality coupled with a sailor's mouth, and my grandmother's thighs...

Even as a toddler, I loved books!

Like my real mom, (despite my determination otherwise, and also because of different circumstances) I too, was a teenage mother; I had my first son in January, a month before my 16th birthday.  Far from being the downturn of my life, RJ was a blessing. I never used being a mother as an excuse to blow off school, and college had always been a part of my life-plan. I graduated from high school at 17, a year ahead of my class, and headed off to college at 18.  Unfortunately, I did jump into a bad marriage (also at 16) with his father.  This ruined many things in my life, including my college career.

This photo is of RJ feeding Chance when he was still a baby.

My second son, Chance, came into this world in December 2007, a full 3 months ahead of schedule. Interestingly, both my boy's had February due dates (the same month I was born).  It was a new lease on life, and an opportunity to give both my sons and myself the life we deserved.  After 8 years, when Chance was 6 months old, I left my abusive husband and started living my life the way I should have years before.

As it would turn out, that big jump would land me the happiness I had so desperately been seeking.  A little while later, I met the love of my life, Charles, and re-enrolled in college.  It wasn't always easy, I had to make up 12 credits and fight just to be enrolled.  That was almost 3 years ago, and now I am proud to say I have my associates degree, a loving family, and my sense of self back.

I think the hardest part about living my own life was finding out who I was all over again. It is an on-going process, and totally rewarding.

What else can I tell about me?  I'm really eclectic.  I'm the eternal student, a bit naive, and a lover of music and the arts.  I also love card games, board games, and video games, especially RPGs, SNES and Genesis games, first-person shooters, and zombie games.  I'm secretly preparing for the zombie apocalypse, which I think will be brought around by the pharmaceutical industry or the cosmetics industry (all that "anti-aging" stuff makes me wonder).

I love writing fiction, and reading, especially horror/sci-fi; and some of my favorite authors are Ira Levin, Stephan King, Anne Rice, Edgar Allen Poe, and John Saul. I love the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam and poems by Yeats (among others), though really, there are so many different books I've read and loved I don't think I could list them all.  I still enjoy watching cartoons, love black & white movies (and watching movies in general), and I both paint and draw-though I believe I'm better at the latter.  I also have a love of astronomy, and you can find me with my head in the sky day or night.  I love almost all types of music, ranging from classical and oldies to rock.
